Geocache Description:

Welcome to The Forest Bum

There was once a hippie hiker that lived on these forests way before “progress” came to these wetlands, it’s been said he learned to live with nature and became a part of if; this was the path he used to hike to get away from civilization. A path that always led him to happiness and peace; needless to say he was a true free man.

One sad day he went missing and no one ever heard of him again, it is said that he was a rich man not just in spirit but he had a hidden treasure hmmm. It has been many moons since he was last seen, could this be true?, could you find this long lost hippie treasure?. Get ready for a great adventure, one thing I will tell you this was not a lazy hippie if there is really a hidden treasure I will assure you it won’t be easily found hahaha. Prepare yourself for a journey full of nature and man combined, it will be you vs. Nature.

Oh wow what a story hmm I am even tempted myself to find this hippie treasure, but I will leave it to you my expert geocachers to tell me if there was ever one hahaha.

Ok my friends now that we have our motivations in place I will tell you a bit about this cache. We start at the city of Doral. This 10 stage milticache will take you into our very own Everglades back yard, you will be able to see from stage one through stage four the damage that we all had to done to the magical Everglades with our so called progress this is very sad but it is the only way to get to the rest of the trail. Now from five through ten you will receive the wonderful gift of nature and you will be able to see what Doral used to be like before men came to this wetlands and dried the land to make progress. Enjoy this magical place and think while hiking how you could help our own wetlands.

Now you know why I brought you here, so now I will tell you a bit about what you are going to go though in order to master this cache. This will be a fun ride until stage five, after this prepare yourself for a nice 1mile hike on our Florida’s swamp, and yes I wrote SWAMP lol what did you think this was going to be a park and grab cache lololol. I don’t think the hippie hiker had a car right, so gear up with plenty of water and other hiking essential for this journey.

You will be seeing our very own flora and fauna, lots of sawgrass, native plants and flowers, cool islands of trees, alligators, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, tortoises, wading birds, turkey vultures, hawks, barred owl, osprey and many more, but how can I forget our friendly mosquitoes lol yes you will get to see and feel them as well lol.

Now that you know where your are going needless to say always safety first, don’t bite more than you can chew so take it easy and enjoy the hike.

I am making this a 24/7 cache since it is open all the time, now I will warn you this is a great place to look at the night sky, but I will only recommend a night hike in this area for expert hikers only, since hiking at night will add a lot more dangers to your journey. I had done it at night and it was fun but you can get easily lost since at night this place changes a lot so do be very careful if you going to venture here at night.

Now I will guide you through the ten stages of this fun and challenging multicache.

Stage #1 The Forest Bum

Very easy begging of the whole adventure, find your small box with the instruction to your next stage.

Stage #2 FPL

This stage it is a given, but I wanted to take you here so you can see how FPL can drastically alter the view of the land

Stage #3 Freedom Lake

This is located near a place where man used to be free and now they are not, many for a reason and many without fault, but yet they are near this lake and most of them miss their freedom

Stage #4 At the gate

Well after you got your car really dirty and I hope your shocks still in one piece, you are seeing the last of the damage men had been doing to this magical wetland, this area had been abandon for years so it makes a great place to park and to get ready for your final hike.

Stage #5 Wetlands

Well you made it to your first encounter with the wetlands, find your tag in order to navigate this place make sure to get it right, people can get easily lost here.

Stage #6 Sawgrass

By now you are in a field of swamp and sawgrass, but your next clue will be in something that does not fit with the scenery.

Stage #7 Over the river

Should I said more I think this one is a given hahaha

Stage #8 Gator’s lair

Well careful while getting to this area I had spotted very large gators on this lake use caution while approaching the waters, since this will be a great spot for group photos and scenery viewing don’t rush out of here take your time to enjoy.

Stage #9 Lonely pine

Wow if by now you don’t hate me yet I am glad haha, this will mean you are almost tasting the goodies of the hippie’s treasure but not quite yet. At this point you can also view the lakes and other landscapes, if you wish to take a sit and rest after this medium to hard hike this will be the place .

Stage #10 The GZ
Hmmm well here is where you tell me if you got lucky or not right.

I hope that after reading about this cache you got exited and started gendering your hiking gear to hit the road to find this treasure. hahaha
