Geocache Description:

Ever met an Ent before?

I drive past this tree that looks like an Ent every day on my way home from work. I'm sure it is related to the great Treebeard from 'The Two Towers.'

There are loads of lovely walks and several other great geocaches in the immediate area.

And now for a compulsory quote that has honestly nothing whatsoever to do with finding the cache.....

"My name is growing all the time, and I've lived a very long, long time; so my name is like a story. Real names tell you the story of the things they belong to in my language, in the Old Entish as you might say. It is a lovely language, but it takes a very long time to say anything in it, because we do not say anything in it, unless it is worth taking a long time to say, and to listen to."

The Lord of the Rings
Treebeard, Chapter 'Treebeard'.

PLEASE NOTE: Hobbits may need to stand on each others shoulders to reach this one. I would like finders to access the log book and sign it please. I think this is all part of the fun of geocaching.

PLEASE ALSO: Check that the cache is replaced carefully, and that the container can not be seen before you leave the cache site. Thanks.

Did you know there was a church and sunday school on the site by this Ent? It was called Magnum Mission. Down the old road was a row of cottages called Broth row and on the top road was a row called Lindley terrace. These houses were lived in originally by the quarrymen and then by the navvies who built the Woodhead tunnel. Thanks to 3 Edges for providing this info.
