Geocache Description:

This cache is one of several caches of The Augusta-Savanah Series. Each of the caches may be found and logged as an individual "found it." However, if you would also like to seek, GC24Z74, Hopeulikit -The Augusta-Savannah Series Finale, you will need to collect the letter/number codes from this (and the other caches of the series) in order to locate the final cache.

The highway crossing near here is the Old River Road. This is one of the earliest "white man's" routes west of the Ogeechee River.

The State authorized the opening of this portion of the old thoroughfare in the year 1777. It followed the course of an existing "Indian trail" that led to the Rock Landing on the Oconee River, which is below contemporary Milledgeville, Georgia. There it intersected the noted Lower Creek Trading Path from Augusta, Georgia to the Creek Indians of western Georgia. When Milledgeville became the capital, the old route became a leading vehicular route from Savannah, Georgia to that place.

Most of this pioneer trace continues in daily use.

There is no need to enter the cemetery in order to seek the cache. Although, if you have children with you, it may be helpful since the highway is close by. There is parking available near the historical sign and the entrance to the cemetery. I would suggest parking here and making the very short walk to the cache. The shoulder of the road can become quite boggy at times.

Here you will be seeking a micro cache. Big hint, it is not in the stump. So, really, don't get stumped. That stump looks too snaky for me to have you poke around in there.

Congratulations to wimr for being First To Find.
