Park in the car park by the Arkwright Centre, and walk up the hill
behind it (up steps and over a stile). A 2 min walk takes you to
the site of the old Arkwright railway station. Then you have a nice
little trek through the woods to the cache site. You can use the 2
photos to help you navigate.
Arkwright Town Railway station opened in 1897, and the line
connected the township to Chesterfield, and to Bolsover after
crossing a viaduct over the river Doe Lea. It closed in 1951, and
nothing is left. Follow the line if you like long walks! Arkwright
township, originally on the other side of the A632, was a small 5
street community with its own colliery. The colliery closed in
1988, and due to leakage of methane gas the whole township of 400
people had to be evacuated in 1989. The new Arkwright, built to
house everyone, was completed in 1995. The old town was demolished
and you can see a memorial by the roundabout on the A632. The cache
is in a sealed plastic beaker in the woods. Go where the GPS tells
you. From there look for a goose - he is guarding the cache. It is
a fairly easy find once you've seen him.
