Geocache Description:

The World Wide Flash Mob Caching Event. WWFM VII. May 15, 2010

Summary: The Basic Idea:

A "Flash Mob" Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event.

Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen)

The World Wide Flash Mob Event:
Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching.

You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. FLASH MOBS have gathered for other reasons (more info here). Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 1:00 PM EST on May 15, 2010. The event will be held at Watchung Reservation in Union County, NJ . This is in an open public space. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute by minute itinerary will be posted. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

In keeping with the theme, please sport a beard if you have one for the group picture.

The Plan

At exactly 1:00 PM (as determined by the GPS clock) we will place a bucket full of nice, new swag at the coordinates. We will place a small CD player on the ground near the bucket to play some pleasant, upbeat music. At this point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of "nowhere". (grin)

One volunteer will hand out "log sheets" / raffle entries (same sheet). Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

ITINERARY:

12:45 PM - 12:59 PM - Participants wait patiently and/or stroll around the area. STAY AWAY from ground zero until the signal is given. Best as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or give any indication that something is about to happen. At 12:59 PM slowly begin to move towards ground zero.

1:00 PM – Everyone will converge right at ground zero. Log slips will be handed out - Bring your own pen or pencil. Sign individual log slip and drop it in the fish bowl.

1:05 PM – snacks will be distributed

1:08 PM – Group picture takes place. Listen carefully and follow all directions given by photographer quickly as to where to line up.

1:12 PM - At this time we will be having a raffle and the name picked will from the collection box. Swag bucket will also be available.

1:14 PM - One minute warning is announced: "It is now 1:14. Prepare to leave!"

1:15 PM EXACTLY – Everyone leave immediately!

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

Tell your friends and help promote the event!
Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING.
Parking can be difficult to find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

Note: Although participants are welcome to get together after the event, the event will officially be over at 1:15. Afterwards, we are planning a picnic in the park (see coordinates for Evergreen on the Loop), please bring something to share and note it in your "will attend" log. Note that no alcohol will be permitted.

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!)
