Rowdies: someone moved the ammo can about 30' from its original location. i am archiving this because the original hiding place no longer exists and there are two letter boxes that were recently placed in this location and it is creating confusion for some cachers. we had a good run in this spot but it's time to relocate this box.

Geocache Description:

All the Rowdies are saying....is Give Peace a Chance.

This is dedicated to our love and belief in Peace. We love Peace. Peace of all sorts....Peace of Mind, Peace of Heart, World Peace, Peace of Pie....okay, we know - it's not that sort of piece, but we do like Pie!

The ammo can is hidden along Goose Creek in Loudoun County. Along the hike you will see several ruins from the Goose Creek Canal. The canal and its many associated stone ruins are mementos of an era when inland waterways were thought to be the last word in commerce.

The aim was to render Goose Creek navigable from the Potomac River to three large water-powered mills about 20 miles away. Grain that was ground at these and six other large mills along the creek could be taken by boat across the Potomac and, via a lock, to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal near Edwards Ferry. In eight hours, the produce would arrive in Washington or Alexandria. Horse-drawn road travel to the ports took twice as long.
