Events are being held internationally this weekend to honor the
10th anniversary of geocaching. As of now, this is the only one in
New Mexico. Many of our friends in the Four Corners area will be
going to the one in Durango and I chose this date and time so the
most ambitious cachers could attend both. There are now events in
Roswell and Las Cruces and an extreme hustler could conceivably hit
them all.
Watch the page for updates and put it on your watchlist. This is
a meet n greet near the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International
Balloon Museum. The coordinates are for the parking lot to the
north. The museum coordinator would like us to meet in the lot to
the south, where the museum's entrance is. I had wanted to do a
flashmob event but Groundspeak wants a real event. We will still
have a couple of hours of daylight to schmooze and exaggerate our
caching adventures. We will meet at 5pm. The museum will be closed.
If you want to tour it, come prior to the event.
Pictures are a big part of these 10 year celebrations so plan to
wear or hold something symbolically New Mexican. If you come
dressed as a saguaro, you will no longer be allowed to call
yourself a New Mexican. Bring your camera and plan to take lots of
pics. Embarrassing candids of your friendly rivals? Priceless!
Keeping with the 10 year spirit, there will be at least 10 new
caches placed around town for the event. If you want to place one,
let me know. I will be releasing the info for the caches placed for
the event early in the day. If you are not local or will not have
computer access that morning let me know. I will email everyone who
has logged a "will attend" by Apr 30.
While I was looking into the area, I found that they are
offering personal bricks in the walkway of the balloon launch area.
I ordered one in memory of Bruce. They assured me that it will be
in place quickly. When they tell me where it is, I will post the
coordinates on this page. It will not be part of the event but it
will be an easy walk for anyone who would like an av8ndv8 moment.
He was a pilot at Fiesta for many years.
