Ten years ago, President Clinton
order selective availability turned off, and the general public was
able to use personal GPS units with near perfect accuracy. Dave
Ulmer hid a stash (and those famous beans), and the rest, as they
say, is history. Now, there are over 1,000,000 active caches and an
estimated 3-4 million geocachers worldwide. Are you one of
them?
Tenyears and counting!
Come celebrate the 10th
anniversary of geocaching with NEPAG at Hickory Run State Park!
Join us from 11:00 am. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1st, for
food, fun, and fellowship at the Hickory Run picnic
pavilion.
All geocachers are
welcome to attend, whether they are members of NEPAG or not. We
have reserved a picnic pavilion at the site, so the event will take
place rain or shine.
Post a log if you plan to attend so we know how many people to
expect, and please indicate in your log what you will contribute to
our potluck lunch. If bringing hotdogs or hamburgers, please bring
the buns to go with them. If bringing a side dish or dessert,
please state what it will be so we can avoid duplicates. NEPAG will
provide cups, plates, napkins, utensils, and
condiments.
Some of the
planned activities include:
*There will be a raffle of geocaching related items donated by
NEPAG members. All attendees are encouraged to donate something for
the raffle. Items should be dropped off as you sign the
logbook.
*Sign up to join NEPAG. Information for registering your membership
online will be available!
*Lunch will be potluck. Please indicate in your "will attend" log
what you will contribute.
*NEPAG will provide the special anniversary cake!
*A special feature of this event will be the 10th Anniversary
T-Shirt Contest. Any attendees who wear a self-designed t-shirt
commemorating the 10th anniversary of geocaching will be eligible
to win one of three super prizes!
*At 1:00, we will assemble for the group photo. Please try to be
present for this, since Groundspeak requires a group photo to be
posted after the event!
Note:
Upon arrival, all attendees are asked to sign the official event
logbook and pick up a nametag. Also upon arrival, you may drop off
your raffle item and leave your potluck items at the buffet
table.
