Geocache Description:

Small black film canister type container - Cache is on not on top of the hill near the convention center. It is near the road behind the Colonial Center.

This is a first in a series called Hidden Columbia. The point of these caches are to point out places and things that you might not have known about.

At this location you will see the remains of a rock wall. If you look close to the ground you will see a small arch. That is the top of a tunnel that runs under Columbia.

There are 3 such tunnels in Columbia that were built in the 1800's. The reason for their being built is still considered a mystery. Some believe it was used as an escape route from the State House. Others believe it was used to move goods from the river to the city center.

These series of caches were inspired by ABC Columbia News that has a segment called "Hidden Columbia". (Search for it on Facebook)
