This is located on the hill overlooking the small locality of Linnville in Willow Wood, Lawrence County Ohio.
In the small community of Linnville, OH (not even really a town, as it is really Willow Wood, OH) there is a surprisingly large German heritage.
On the hill there is a cemetery. Historic documents point to this cemetery as being the "Lutheran Cemetery". More recently, it has been taken care of by a group of people and called the "Linnville Cemetery". It is definitely worth a stroll and look through. There are some really old headstones and even some inscribed in the German language. Beside the cemetery is an old one room, wooden frame church. Growing up I have always known it as "The old German church". The actual denomination, however, was Lutheran. And yes, a good majority of the congregation was German or of German heritage. Records of the church's attendance and closing date are scarce, but the majority of the former congregation moved into town to the St. Paul Lutheran church in Ironton. The church is surprisingly well maintained for its age but there is no telling how long it has been abandoned. The sign reads "Evgl. Prot. Union Kirche 1884". The interior of the church is amazing considering its age. All the pews remain as well as the pulpit stand. It looks as though it's frozen in time. It is definitely a neat reminder of the German heritage of the area. I think that the cemetery's owners are using this as sort of a storage area for the cemetery maintenance equipment. This explains the white frosted glass, to deter theft. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the inside to upload soon!
There is a blacktop drive off of State Route 217. The terrain is easy. No hills to walk or woods to traverse. The container is a small dental floss container. Contents are a folded sheet of paper for a logbook (for now) and a guitar pick. First to find gets a 64MB memory stick (lol).
