Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a themed multi-cache series based on the DC Comics character "Superman".

Several months back I placed a Batman-themed series, and shortly thereafter began thinking about one based on Superman. This particular series has been a little more difficult to design than the other one, though, because it's much harder to find real-world analogs to a Man of Steel who fights aliens (not to mention being one himself) and giant robots than to the gritty urban setting of the Caped Crusader. As things stand, I did manage to imagine tenuous connections between each cache area and its named location from Superman's history, but at best they strain even my own credulity. I also ended up abbreviating this series to 7 locations instead of 9.

Your ultimate goal in the series is to find the Fortress of Solitude, which is at the following mystery coordinates: N38,01.ABC W121,50.XYZ. Each of the other caches in the series -- all of which can be viewed here -- contains the numeric equivalent of each letter in the coordinates. Replace the letters with the appropriate numbers, and you've found the location of Superman's arctic retreat. GOOD LUCK!

HTRAE

Htrae (also known as Bizarro World) is a fictional planet in the DC comics universe. Introduced in the early 1960s, Htrae is a cube-shaped planet, home to Bizarro and his companions, all of whom were initially Bizarro versions of Superman, Lois Lane and their children. Later, other Bizarros were created to add to the population including Wonderzarro, Bizarro Flash, "the Yellow Lantern", Bizarro-Kltpzyxm and Batzarro, the World's Worst Detective.

In the Bizarro world of "Htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!". In one episode, for example, a salesman is doing a brisk trade selling Bizarro bonds: "Guaranteed to lose money for you". Later, the mayor appoints Bizarro No. 1 to investigate a crime, "Because you are stupider than the entire Bizarro police force put together". This is intended and taken as a great compliment.

Later stories introduced Bizarro versions of Superman's supporting cast, including Bizarro-Perry White and Bizarro-Jimmy Olsen, created by using the duplicator ray on characters other than Superman and Lois Lane, as well as the children of Bizarro and Bizarro Lois. There was a Bizarro-Justice League and Legion of Super-Heroes: the Bizarro League and the Legion of Stupor-Heroes. Bizarro-Batman sported a Futility Belt full of cigarette butts and chewed gum and other such priceless Bizarro treasures. Yellow Lantern had NO power from his powerless Ring. Bizarro-Aquaman couldn't swim. There is even a Bizarro-Marilyn Monroe, the ugliest of them all.

OAKLEY

Oakley is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. Oakley is part of the East Contra Costa Bicycle Plan, which has existing facilities in Oakley as well as plans for further expansion, and the area also offers access to the Delta de Anza Regional Trail.

Nearly all students living within the City of Oakley are attending a public or private school located within City limits. The City is mainly served by Oakley Union Elementary School District (K-8) and the Liberty Union High School District. A small group of Oakley citizens living west of Empire Avenue (colloquially known as "Oakley orphans") are served by the Antioch Unified School District and required to attend school in Antioch.

THE CACHE

This is a small pill bottle, containing a log and enough room for only very small items. There is also a single greenback for FTF. BYOP.

There is no curbside parking at GZ, but several turnouts and unused driveways are located nearby. No fence climbing is necessary.

Congratulations to Team Klinward for the FTF!!!
