This is my first cache and it takes its name from the place where it is hidden, the Wasit Nature Reserve.
Wasit Nature Reserve was originally a waste-water dump and rubbish tip called Ramtha Lagoons. In the mid 1990's it became a Bird Protected Area. They are remnants of once-extensive coastal salt flats (sabhka) and saltmarsh that occurred in areas where groundwater daylights near the coast or at the outlets of ephemeral streams / longitudinal wetland systems. In 2005, it was named the Wasit Nature reserve and since 2006, it is a protected reserve.
The area has had its fair share of rarities over the years, including the following first records for the UAE:
Intermediate Egret (December 1994)
Lesser White-fronted Goose (November 1996)
White-breasted Waterhen (November 1992)
Mediterranean Gull (January 1996)
Sabine's Gull (June 1991)
And two of only eight UAE records of White-throated Kingfisher (November 1990 and winter 1992/93).
The cache is magnetic and placed along the walkway that surrounds the reserve. Parking space is just 150 feet from the cache. There are joggers on the walkway in the evening and early morning. All other times, its muggle free.
