This cache was placed for the BIG HUNT preceding Microfest 2010.
The history of the suburb of Irene is very closely tied to that of the St Martins in the Field Anglican Church. During the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1903), a portion of the farm Irene was used to house a concentration camp in which Afrikaans women and children was kept. The area became an 'English area' and the little church (100 seater) was built in 1923 to provide a spiritual home for the residents of the area.
