A group
of cachers from GeoWoodstock VIII will be cruising to Alaska and
making 4 stops on the cruise. This is the 1st stop of our adventure
to Alaska. We'd like to meet a bunch of locals from the area and
hope you can stop by to meet us.
You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a
variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for a variety of reasons
but seldom before for geocaching. This is not a micro event but an
event to gather together, blitz the fun and then make plans to
cache the day away together or just get to work or whatever you
have to do. Its a time to meet new friends, get acquainted with new
cachers and get it done quickly. This idea was created and done
earlier in 2007 by the Podcacher folk and it was a great success.
The tradition continued with an event in Philly in 2007 and
numerous other locations scattered around the world. We are now
carrying the tradition to here in Skagway.
Since this is a Flash Mob event, there will be
short amount of time for all to meet. The event will start at 9am
and will conclude exactly 15 minutes later at 9:15am. There will be
snacks and exchanges of trackables.

Official Schedule &Drawing for FTF
8:45 - 8:59 › Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be
nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a
gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can.
This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of
no-where.
9:00AM CUE MUSIC! WOOT! MAM and Crew will walk to ground zero with
a whistles blowing, indicating the start. › ›
› › › This is the signal that the event has
begun! › Participants: Make sure to pickup your pathtag from
Sakiman carrying a blue velvet bag. Be sure to pick-up a logsheet
& nametag from me, mmacgown. Your logsheet will serve as a
raffle ticket, Grand High Pobah aka Brady will be giving out the
snack. › Participants: Fill out nametags with caching names
and stick 'em on! › Participants: Fill out yellow log sheets
and drop them in the hat! Make sure your caching name appears on
any yellow log sheet. This will allow you to log the event online.
We will be checking! › Participants: Listen carefully for
the FTF winner to be announced.
9:00 - 9:10 › Participants: Mingle. Share stories. Brag.
Trade swag and/or travel bugs. Take pictures. Sign and deposit your
log (sheets). Deposit your raffle ticket. CITO the local area!
Enjoy your geosnack! › Participants: Listen up. MAM will
draw number of raffle winner. Listen carefully because this will go
fast.
9:10 – 9:14 › Participants: We will turn towards
SAKIMAN and get our photo taken as a group at GZ. Finish your
Geosnack, trade a coin... yadayada...
9:14 GHP calls the one minute warning: "It is now 9:14!" ›
Participants: Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are
prepping. You might want to "secretly" organize where you will
re-form after dispersal.
9:15 EXACTLY › Participants: Wait for it . . . then LEAVE
the area, right at 9:15, in a disorderly manner and in different
directions.
Afterwards, meet elsewhere if desired. The area will be packed up;
the log sheets will be packed up and sealed. We will leave the area
to go . . . elsewhere... Other Useful Information: •
This event is only 15 minutes long!
You MUST be present and sign a provided log sheet DURING this time
to claim the event. Hopefully this event will bring (briefly!)
geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby. • This
event has been organized and facilitated by volunteers. There are
not enough words to express my thanks and gratitude to them. If you
are interested in volunteering, there is still time. •
At exactly 9:00am (as determined by a GPS clock . . . yours should
be identical) MAM and gang will toot their whistles. Volunteers
will hand out items cachers. The bags will contain everything
mentioned in the schedule. Participants will sign the yellow log
sheets (which will later become a log book) to qualify for
attendance and drop them in a designated collection spot.
Participants may trade swag and/or TBs. Please bring only
reasonably sized swag, TBs or coins for trading. • If any
muggles are curious about the event, Grand High Pobah will hand out
fliers that explain geocaching. •
At precisely 9:15, the log sheets will be packed up and sealed
away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that
happen after 9:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event. Only those
participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the
event. • Although participants are welcome to get together for
eating, socializing, caching or whatever before or after the event,
the event will officially be over at 9:15.
I love it when a cache comes together, mmacgown!
Please
put this event on your watchlist, so if there are updates, you'll
get the information. We are all looking forward it meeting you
all!
