Canoe launch. With historical information nearby showing a different kind of launch.
Cache is a 470 ml lock n lock covered in camo tape. It's not a tin box. More on that later...
This is a place one can launch a canoe and paddle out to Lake Winnipeg. For me though, it's a place I've rested, even before I took up geocaching, on my bike rides from Matlock to Gimli and back. Also I'd look at the historical interpretive signage just north of the cache. On it is information about how immigrants launched new lives in the area. Icelanders of course, but also Ukrainians, my ancestors being amongst them.
This place has a bit of geocaching history behind it, too. There used to be a cache here. On my first weekend geocaching by bike, in July 2007, I came looking for it but, still being really green, didn't find it. When I came in 2008 the cache was thought missing and the listing was disabled. I took a look anyway... I found a multicoloured tin box with geocaching-type swag, but no logbook. I threw in some paper, declared it to be the cache, hid it in a different position nearby, and logged it online as found. Shortly thereafter the cache was archived.
The weekend before placing my cache here, almost two years later, I found the tin box right where I hid it. Contents were wet but the "cache" appeared to have been undisturbed. Now I'm hiding a better container in that spot. Some of the tin box's contents are incorporated in the new cache, along with some new stuff.
Congratulations to Zoo Croo on being FTF (their first)!
