[ITA]: la Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo è una delle chiese più imponenti e grandi di Venezia. La chiesa sorge nel sestiere di Castello, vicino all'Ospedale Civile di Venezia. La sua storia inizia nel 1234, quando il Doge Jacopo Tiepolo donò un oratorio e alcuni terreni adiacenti ai frati domenicani. I frati costruirono subito una nuova chiesa, che dedicarono a Giovanni e Paolo, non i due Apostoli, ma due martiri romani del IV secolo. Nel 1333 la chiesa fu però demolita per lasciare posto a quelle odierna. I lavori durarono molti anni e la chiesa fu consacrata solo il 14 novembre 1430. Da allora la chiesa è stata continuamente arricchita di monumenti sepolcrali, dipinti e sculture opera dei maggiori artisti veneziani. Nel corso della storia della Serenissima, molti Dogi e personaggi famosi veneziani furono sepolti nella chiesa, nei vari sepolcri che si trovano sia all'interno che all'esterno. La fine della Repubblica di Venezia segnò anche il declino della chiesa. Nel 1806, sotto il dominio napoleonico, i domenicani vennero allontanati e la chiesa fu trasformata in ospedale e spogliata di numerose opere d'arte. Inoltre, nella notte tra il 15 e il 16 agosto 1867 un incendio bruciò completamente la meravigliosa cappella del Rosario, insieme ai preziosi dipinti che vi erano conservati. Il restauro di questa cappella si concluse solo recentemente, nel 1959.
La cache è nascosta lungo il perimetro esterno della Basilica. Non guardate tra i mattoni... non è là. Fate attenzione ai molti mugglers presenti nella zona. Buona caccia!


[ENG]: The Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (St. John and Paul) is one of the largest churches in Venice. It is located in the sestriere of Castello, near the Civil Hospital of Venice. Its history begins in 1234, when the Doge Jacopo Tiepolo donated some swampland to the Dominican. Few years later, the Domenicans built a first church dedicated to John and Paul, not the Biblical Apostles of the same names, but two Roman martyrs of IV Century. However, this first church was demolished in 1333, when the current church was begun. It was not completed until November 1430. The church was continuously enriched with tombs, paintings and sculptures by leading Venetian artists. Throughout the history of the Serenissima, many Doges and many famous people were buried in the Venetian church, in various tombs. The end of the Venetian Republic marked the decline of the church. In 1806, under the Napoleonic domain, the Dominicans were removed and the church was converted into a hospital and stripped of many works of art. Moreover, in 1867 a fire burned down the chapel of the Rosary, with its precious paintings. The restoration of this chapel was completed only in 1959.
The cache is hidden along the outer perimeter of the Basilica. Do not look among the bricks... is not there. Be careful: a lot of mugglers are present in the area. Good hunting!
