GC10: Angel of the North Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

The Angel and The Cache

The Angel of The North was errected in 1998 and currently stands 20m tall and 54m wide. It has a HUGE concrete base which goes down, beneath the ground for 20m. It was first considered an eyesore by the people who lived with it everyday but has proved more popular than the Tyne Bridge. It recently celebrated it's 10th Birthday. From the cache site, there is a lovely view of the angel through the trees (this view is especially good at dusk).

This cache has a sister cache 0.2 miles away; Angels View (Tyne & Wear). This is of legend status (because it was one of the first in the UK) and is highly reccommended to visit. The cache is a tupperware box and should only be attempted by wheelchair users who wouldnt mind getting their chair dirty. The area gets quite muddy so a change of shoes for the car might be needed :-).

GC10

Yes, this year is Geocaching's 10th Anniversary! Here, in the UK we have decided to mark this momentous occasion by putting a series of caches under the title of 'GC10' all the way round the UK! Here are the other caches:

GC10: Giants Causeway
GC10: Edinburgh Castle
GC10: Hadrians Wall
GC10: Angel of the North
GC10: White Cliffs of Dover
GC10: Blackpool Tower
GC10: St Paul's Cathedral
GC10: Concrete Cows
GC10: The North
GC10: The South

We hope you enjoy the series!

With Thanks to The Jones',
batsgonemad and his squirrel, Haggis Hunter, seamanrob, Wavendon Williams, goldpot and jackflet44- for setting up this series. They all contributed a lot to the series so, could I please ask for more than 'one-liner' logs. I do enjoy reading them!
