Geocache Description:

On the way back from Piney Creek saw the Newt Crossing sign on tree far down from cache. Decided to hide a clever cache next to the sign that says "University of Museum of California" Vertabrate Zoology and Natural Reserve system preservation & study of wild animals and plants.

Hastings is a Biological Field Station of the University of California, Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and Natural Reserve System. They provide the wildlands and facilities to conduct university and graduate level studies of natural systems in the Santa Lucia mountain range in Monterey County, California. A representative ecosystem of about 2,500 acres, Hastings was established in 1937 to be managed with minimal disturbance for research and education. They encourages a community of researchers to live lightly in the ecosystem they study. Over 500 research projects have been conducted since 1937. These studies reveal that every species has a fascinating story. These stories put our lives into perspective. They hope that understanding the natural world around us will inspire people to protect and appreciate whatever is still wild and under their care.

During the rainy season you can see Newts all over the roads so beware. Didn't see any today but when it starts to rain again they may be out.

Bring your own pen. Cache has small trade items.

Happy caching!
