Geocache Description:

This is an easy cache just off the road. Bring your own pen to sign the logbook.

On this site in 1832 Robert Stephenson built a rope hauled inclined plane as part of the Leicestershire and Swannington Railway to transport coal from the mines of Swannington and Coleorton to the proncipal market of Leicester. The system operated for 115 years.

This is one of five sites of historical and ecological interest owned by Swannington Heritage Trust in and around Swannington. The Trust acknowledges the tremendous assistance provided by Leicestershire County Council in restoring and preserving the sites.

Please note that the Incline walk terminates below Cattle Arch Bridge. If you wish to continue to walk either the Swannington Village Trail or the 9 Mile Mining Heritage Trail, which links Swannington and Coleorton villages with Snibston Discovery Park, it is necessary to retrace your steps to the footpath at Church Lane Bridge. Copies of these Trails are available at Snibston’s Tourist Information Office and Guided walks of both Trails may be arranged by contacting Swannington Heritage Trust.
