Geocache Description:

This will be the third annual Geocaching event at Nelson Ledges Roadcourse

For this years event, we will be caching during an SCCA National Race. A National brings out the best races and the fastest cars you will see in Club racing. We will have all the Showroom Stock, American Sedan, Touring, Production and Formula classes including a few Formula Atlantics. This promises to be some really fast cars with intense competition. Especially during Qualifying, where the fastest class drivers will lay down a hot lap time. Then another driver will go out and may top the first drivers time. It then can turn into a fascinating chess match to see who gets the pole for the class. The GT1 session last year was especially fun to watch.

You may be wondering about the tribute to John McGill. For those of you who may not have heard, John was the founder of the track and Kerrie's father (my wife AKA Gatewench). He was instrumental in race track safety and was awarded a top SCCA safety award in 1970 for the invention of the tirewalls that you see all around Nelson Ledges. His influence was felt around the world as other tracks, including those who even run Formula 1 races, followed his idea and placed tires in critical impact points saving the lives of countless drivers over the past nearly 40 years. He will be missed...

The event will start at 11am and a potluck dinner will be at 5pm. Entry to the track is free to Geocachers. Just tell the gate personnel that you are at the track for the caching event. Please post a note if you plan to attend and what you're bringing for the potluck dinner. The track will provide hot dogs, burgers and drinks. But make sure to bring chairs for everyone in your group. In the past, I've made sure to place at least 25 caches. So this year, they may get a bit more clever to mix things up a bit. But won't be overly difficult. But make sure to take some time to watch the on track activities as well since you'll have plenty of time to find all the caches and be back for dinner.
