This is the first Geocache by the Glenn Family!! At Pass Lake in
Deception Pass State Park, a small pullout to park will set you up
at the head of the Pass Lake Trail. Prepare to hike, its a 1.35
mile walk from the trail head to the cache site, then once the
cache is found, you continue on the main trail the way you were
heading and the total loop is about 2.5 miles. My 11, 9 and 4 year
old handled it no problems.
If your in the Northwest, the outdoors is all around you and with a
passion for hiking....you never have a day with nothing to do. Even
when its raining. Pass Lake has a trail that makes a loop through
the woods on its west side. Its beautiful, scenic, and a good hike
to get your heart rate going. The hiding place is about 1.35 miles
up the trail. You have to hike it, mountain bikes are not allowed
on the trail. It has some good inclines, so wear a pair of hiking
boots, bring a pack with some water in it, maybe a mid hike snack,
and be sure to set your car as a waypoint. The trail has a few
splits, due to the nature of the meandering trail, dead reckoning
on the GPS location will not help you until your nearly on top of
it. Just walk the trail. It may have some soggy spots, a runoff is
trying to make a creek in middle of the trail. SPOILER ALERT PASS
THIS POINT!!! To Start: Park at the lake. Look for two signs that
mark the head of the trail. Begin walking. You will come to your
first fork in the trail, stay left. The trail to the right is where
you will come out at. Walk awhile, then you will come to your
second fork in the trail. Down hill to the left leads you to a gate
and a road. Don't go that way. Go up the hill. The trail will
appear as an old 4x4 trail grown over. This is mostly uphill and
its soggy and muddy. Continue on this trail with no side detours
for quite some ways. If you see the remains of an old tree that had
been struck by lightning, know your on the right path and not too
far off. When your close to the Cache, stay on the trail until you
see a very sneaky trail sneaking off to the left. It leads to a
rock outcropping that requires you to climb up. Its not too
difficult, but it may challenge the very young and the
uncoordinated. Once you are atop the Rock clearing, if the moss
arrows are no longer obvious, look for a trail that moves to the
top and left of the rock plateau. Its narrow, and it leads to
another rock plateau. At this point, your near enough to find
success. Once you have succeeded in finding the cache, head back
the way you came to the main trail. At this point you can go back
the way you came, or just finish the loop by heading on the trail
the way you were going till you come to another fork at the bottom
of the hill. Go right. This will follow along Pass Lake and
ultimately lead you to one final fork which was the first one you
came across when you started. Go left and you will quickly find
your car. Cache in and Trash out!! For the FTF Hunters, some Navy
Collectible coins and currency from around the world await you. Be
kind to other Hunters, leave some for them and put something in.
The container is a medium sized AMMO CAN painted black. Please fill
out the log book and leave the pens behind. Any Trackables- take
them and move them along, but be sure to log them on their
respective sites. Good luck to all!! Enjoy the trails!
