Wild areas in any town are precious; this place certainly is for Sidmouth. It has a meadow, a pond, a woodland area,an orchard, great views, a diversity of wild fauna and flora and all of it is accessible by able bodied and disabled visitors alike. There are two special seats carved from two large chestnut trees. The first one you come across is a circle of four seats for intimate gatherings. The second is in a woodland clearing and is a Story Teller's Seat which is surrounded by carved stump seats. They are all regularly used by mothers and children.
At the weekend you can park at the park & walk/ride (free) and walk uphill to the entrance at N50 41.352 W003 14.691. Weekdays it is safe to park close to the entrance.
There is now a new entrance from Peasands Road, (N50 41.226 W3 14.466) but it is quite a climb up the steps
It's worth mentioning that you don't have to go into the meadow if it's locked, you can get to the cache from the top of the orchard.
