Geocache Description:

Congratulations to JPS4E, BGN and H@TW for FTF!

This cache is a nano and is not on Post Office property.

This cache is located at what remains of downtown Luther. At one time this was quite a bustling community with many stores, banks, restaurants, doctors, barber and beauty shops, hotels and other services. In addition, the town had several social organizations, schools and a community marching band, the Luther Silver Cornet Band. Now all that remains are the post office, elevator and water tower.

The water tower is no longer in service. The first wooden water tower was constructed in 1913 and was replaced by a metal one in 1954. The wooden frost jacket on this tower burned in 1968 which, by all accounts, was quite a sight to see. Since 1992 water to the community has been provided by Xenia Rural Water Services but the water tower remains as a landmark.

While in Luther please also visit GC23PVM.

02/27/11 - It's official. This is one of the small-town post offices that has been closed. Now all that's left of downtown Luther is the elevator and the water tower .
