For many of us, this is a super-busy May weekend. Spring is in
the air, and it's filled with campouts, festivals, and most of all,
BIRTHDAY PARTIES! Happy 10th Anniversary to Geocaching!!
A few friends and I were lamenting that due to some of these
other activities and commitments, we might have a tough time
getting down to the official Georgia Geocachers Association
birthday event on May 1 (GC25DXK). That's when I read that you can
celebrate this event on May 2, also!
I talked it over and we decided that it might be fun to have a
additional, smaller, more casual, gathering for cachers in the
Acworth area. Since I just completed my first year caching, I
thought organizing it might be a nice way to say thanks to the many
of you that have been so helpful.
We even came up with a goofy name for our potential
gathering:
"The Greater Acworth Area Loose Confederation of Unorganized
Geocachers", or GAALCUG.
Well, the name has met with mixed reviews, but the concept of
saying hello, swapping some stories (and hopefully some hints!),
swapping some travelbugs, and earning the coveted special 10th
Birthday Icon seemed to resonate, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
As a bonus, those of us that can attend the Marietta GGA event
might now have a shot at two icons! This event will be very casual.
We have to get a picture of at least 10 of us to be "official", so
wear a geocache shirt if you have one. Refreshments and food are
'dutch.'
Date: May 2nd
Time: 2pm
Location: Buffalo's on Hwy 41 in Acworth (This
location has worked well for previous events, so I figured why
change?)
Anyone interested is invited! Once we get
close to the date and I get a rough headcount, I'll work on
reservations at the restaurant.
UPDATE 4/15/10: Mrs. I Hunt for Fun
has offered to place an order for special 10th Birthday Geocoins!
I've attached images in the gallery below. Cost is $10 per coin.
Please email her via her profile link (you can use her RSVP below)
and let her know if you're interested. The coins look great and I'm
excited to get one!
