Geocache Description:

A small cache placed on the Great Northern trail near Thornton. Parking is best at the Thornton road end, near the Great Northern Hotel and Platform 568 Cafe and Bistro as Headley Lane is steep , narrow and difficult to safely park on. This section of the trail provides a gentle walk on tarmac with fine views.

The Queensbury Lines were part of the Great Northern Railway in West Yorkshire, England. They opened in 1882 and closed in 1955, however goods trains continued to run until 1974 between Bradford Interchange, Bradford Exchange and Horton Park Station.

The three lines coming from Keighley, Halifax and Bradford all joined up at Queensbury, which unusually consisted of continuous platforms on all three sides of a triangular junction.

The cache is placed within sight of a bridge, one of numerous engineering works needed to traverse Pinch Beck Valley, culminating in the Thornton Viaduct to the north.
