Geocache Description:

This cache is a 35mm film pot located at ground level.

Park in the free public car park at: N 50° 47.750 E 000° 19.550.
Finding the cache and returning to the car will take you about 30 minutes.
Of course, it may take you a lot longer if you stop at any of the watering holes, eateries, or shops on your way.

Background:
Why PAN-PAN and not MAYDAY?

Marine VHF radio is used world-wide for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications. Cruise liners, warships and the fishing boats and pleasure craft using the marina all use the same system. To avoid confusion, some special words are used universally, “MAYDAY” for life-threatening emergencies being the most memorable - the equivalent of a 999, 112 or 911 telephone call. If there is no immediate danger to life, but a vessel requires urgent assistance, then a “PAN-PAN” call is appropriate.

The cache:
To find the cache you will need to establish which marine radio channels are used for the following:
AB = International distress, safety and calling channel
CD = DSC - Digital Selective Calling
EF = Sovereign harbour lock gates ship to shore
GH = Folkstone Harbour
IJ = UK Marinas
KL= Newhaven Harbour
MN = Rye Harbour

If you don’t have a nautical almanac with all the radio channels, make a virtual PAN-PAN call using the usual geocachers’ emergency services - Wikipedia and Google. Hint “Marine VHF Radio” from Wikipedia and “VHF Marine Channel List” from Google.
