Geocache Description:

This cache is placed close to a 'Welcome to Armagh' road sign on the A3 Portadown Road into Armagh.

Armagh is believed to be one of Ireland's oldest settlements. A fortress was established here by a pagan queen around 600 BC, and called Ard Macha, meaning 'Macha's Height' from which Armagh derives its name.

Christian settlement of the area began around the 5th century AD, and by the 8th century Armagh was recognised throughout Europe as a centre for Christian learning and influence. Armagh suffered at the hands of Viking and British invaders, but by the Georgian era had entered a time of prosperity and stability based around the linen industry. Armagh gained city status in 1995 and today retains much of its Georgian character.

This cache is a camouflaged drill bit box. There is room to park right beside the cache location. This is a very busy road so please take care with the kids. We would appreciate if the cache is replaced as found. Happy caching from cowood.
