Geocache Description:

THE CO-ORDINATES SHOWN ARE FOR PARKING.

The main car par closes at dusk. Park outside the barrier after that.

This location is perfect for geocaching as a map is provided!

Designed to be fun for everyone with not a lot of walking. Just one short steep climb to get some clues.

Look out for the boar or at least the evidence that they have been rooting.

Plenty of walks and cycle paths nearby.

Placed with kind permission of Forestry Commission.

Please note:-

Certain times of the year Adders & Grassnakes can be seen basking in the sun on the sides of the spoil heap. (We have never seen any ourselves) but in Spring they are waking up for the breeding season.

The clues are simple but take care to follow the clues carefully and check your maths before setting off for the main cache which is nearby.

THE BOARDS MENTIONED AT 1 AND 2 BELOW HAVE TEMPORARILY BEEN REMOVED AND SO THE ANSWERS TO A, B AND C ARE GIVEN TO YOU:

A = 7
B = 1
C = 9

IT'S STILL WORTH THE CLIMB TO THE TOP THOUGH!

1. At the top of the spoil heap you will find information boards which tell you that this is probably the best place in the UK for watching a particular bird. How many letters make up the name of this bird? = A (SEE NOTE ABOVE)

2. According to the information boards, these birds can live to BC years (SEE NOTE ABOVE)

3. Go to the map and stand on the number used to show your present location. Immediately to your right is a coal mine (a bit of a boot). How many letters make up the name of this coal mine? = DE

4. Of all the coal mines listed, only one can be said to be truly independent. What number is assigned to that mine? = FG

5. Stand at FG on the map. What is the nearest single digit to FG? = H

6. How many words make up the name of H? = J

7. Go to the Role of Honour Sculpture to find out how many elements are depicted = K
