High Tea Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Saff: Unfortunately this Stage 1 is probably missing more often than it’s present. This spot is probably a little too exposed for this kind of hide, and I’ve therefore decided it’s time to admit defeat.

Final has now been reclaimed and there’s some free space for something new.

Geocache Description:

A two-stage multi celebrating two famous English traditions.

About the area:
Torrisholme Barrow was the old Law Hill of the Lancaster area which fell out of use following the construction of Lancaster Castle. The name Torrisholme Barrow also reflects the presence of a historic burial mound, designated as a “round barrow” on the Lancashire County Council monuments and records listing. The Trig point on Torrisholme Barrow is also listed on WayMarking.com (see below for link). The area is only a short walk from Bare Lane Railway Station.

About English High Tea
The English are well-known for their fondness of the beverage known as tea. Rather confusingly, they also describe a number of meals as 'tea' - perhaps the most famous being the traditional Afternoon Tea, a light meal of sandwiches, scones and cake eaten in the early afternoon, bridging the gap until the later evening meal. The term 'High Tea' is most commonly used (in England at least) to refer to a more substantial early evening meal which would be eaten in the absence of both the Afternoon Tea and a late evening meal. A High Tea might comprise of sandwiches, cold meat, eggs or fish, followed by cake. Confusingly, in working class environments, the term High Tea refers instead to the more substantial traditional evening meal.

Just to add more confusion to the pot, Armericans commonly refer to an English Afternoon Tea as 'High Tea' - it is this definition of High Tea I had in mind when planting this cache!

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any particularly great English tea shops in the area but I dare say a good afternoon tea could be found in Morecambe if one looked hard enough - a just reward after this pleasant walk up and around Torrisholme Barrow.

About this cache:
This is a simple two stage multi - the end portions of the coordinates for the final container (a small) are given at the listed coordinates (a nano/micro). Prefix the three digits for North by 54° 04. and the three digits for West by 002° 49. - distance from the inital coordinates is approximately 0.16 miles (845 feet/257 metres). This is the starting point for the "Spoonful of Sugar" Travel Bug.

Please take care when looking for part one of this cache - it is not really removable from its hiding place, but the coordinates can easily be read in place.

The original cache started out containing a FTF pin and a variety of tea-related goodies!

The current incarnation of this cache has very limited space for trackables and other goodies, sorry.
