Geocache Description:

This cache container (and original contents) was given to Purplepixxie for her birthday by another Geocacher and is a small sized box. Please bring own pen.

'Ware is one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Western Europe.' wrote the archaeologist Robert Kiln, in his book, 'The Dawn of History in East Herts', he described how excavations near Ware Lock had revealed settlements going back some 5,000 - l0,000 years.

In 1658 the river, around the now site of Ware Lock, was diverted and a lock was needed. This has since been replaced and the present lock dates back to c1900 and is sited next to the weir.

Take a walk along the river and, within sight of the lock, you can look for Purplepixxie's birthday cache. The cache is in easy reach of the footpath although you many need to venture off it!
