10 Years! Decatur, Alabama Community Celebration Event
neoncacher: I absolutely enjoyed this event and was overwhelmed by the turnout, considering the TERRIBLE weather!!! I could not have been more thrilled to see so many new faces as well as long time friends. I hate to archive such a great event, but I do hate to have them show up in PQ's when they are not there... So, without much fanfare I bid you ado, until the next 10 years goes by...
I added a few pictures, the poster i had a lot of you sign and the AWESOME Geo-COOKIE (Thanks drummerchik!!!)
Please be sure to remove all TB's and get them where they are going. Thanx neoncacher

A Celebration for 10 Years of Geocaching in my hometown, Decatur, Alabama. We shall commence at 2:30pm. and last at least an hour or until we decide to leave. Come and swap stories & trackables, even pick through all of my very own. All attendees will not only get 2 smiley's, they will get a cool new caching icon for attending this event (as long as all requirements are met).
I would like for all attendees to bring a number from the posted coordinates to the event, i.e. if you have a cool or interesting 0,2,3,4,5,6,7,or 8 just laying around the house, Please bring it. Heck you can even make it, be as creative as you like!!! We will use these numbers to take the picture of the coordinates as described in the guidelines. I will take care of the N and the W (I will make them out of sheet metal today at work... (hehe)
OR
I have another idea that might fit GC.com's requirements a little better that involves just the people that will attend, but that's all I will say about that... for now. Either way it will be great fun and very creative and a way to get everyone involved with the picture.
This will be a 10 Years celebration in Decatur for those unable to attend the one in Huntsville the previous day. I really want to host this event to welcome all the newcomers and to show my Thanks and Gratitude to the hobby/ sport that I have come to love so much. I know of quite a few cachers that have recently started and I cannot think of a better way to to meet other cachers than this reason. I know I am ready, willing and able as well as many of my caching friends to lend a hand to our newest members and I hope each and everyone of you that can attend, will do so. I will be placing an event cache fashioned after the Original Stash (Geocaching's first ever). Everyone that attends will be allowed to log the event twice (if you so choose), once for the event & once for the event cache. I may make the cache permanent. A photo will be taken at the Spirit of America stage, home to the Spirit of America festival every July 4th. It will be the back drop for our photo. We will meet at the posted coordinates at the posted time and handle the business of the photo first, right in front of the Spirit of America stage. After wards, attendees will receive the coords for the event cache that I promise will be "a blast from the past" if you will. I will not spoil it for anyone but I promise you will want to be there to find it. If you have not been caching in Decatur, there are 10 caches within a mile of the posted coords, and even one cache within eyesight of America's very FIRST Wave Pool!!! I am looking forward to all that attend and I hope to see all local cachers out to celebrate this great event!!!
These are the requirements set by GC.com for this event:
Additional Guidelines:
* Events must be held April 30 - May 3, 2010.
* The name of the event needs to be formatted this way: "10 Years! ." For example: 10 Years! Seattle, WA or 10 Jahre! Munich, Germany.
* At least 10 people must attend the event.
* Flashmobs do not qualify.
* A video or picture must be taken at the event. At least 10 attendees must be in the video/photo along with a legible sign showing the event coordinates and location name.
* The people in the video or photo should be festive. Be inventive! But please keep it family friendly.
I will assure that they are followed in order to qualify this event for the special icon.
I am looking forward to seeing all my friends and I WELCOME each and every new cacher to attend. Regardless, EVERYONE is welcome and I am looking forward to seeing you there!!!
I have asked Vesole, a good friend and local Charter Member cacher to briefly tell everyone about how caching has changed since he started in July of 2001!!! WOW!!! So Thanks to him for that!!!
