The cache is located on BLM land in the Echo Meadows Oregon Trail Interpretive site. If you take exit 182 from I-84 you will need to travel south and then turn east on the Echo-Lexington Highway. Watch for the Oregon Trail sign and turn left to the interpretive site. Parking: N 45 43.205 W 119 18.565
From a point nearby the cache one can see the route of the Oregon Trail and possibly imagine the hardships faced
by those who passed this way along the old Oregon Trail.
By the time the emigrants reached this point their supplies were depleted and their draft animals were near exhaustion. The availability of water and grazing nearby made this a resting area near Butter Creek to the west. The next leg of their journey would take them to the Dalles, where they would choose to float the Columbia River or take the Barlow Road.
If you follow the asphalt trail it will take you to a portion of the original trail. Which is also the resting place of a nearby pre-existing geocache.
