A little history about this cache location. In 1822 a charter was granted to the Farmington Canal Co. to construct a waterway from New Haven to the Massachusetts state line. At the height of the canals popularity in 1839, 106 boats "cleared" at New Haven, carrying 3,947,155 pounds of goods, and that was only one way. The canal was also used for transportation by local citizens. By 1847 the railroads had replaced the canal and the Farmington canal section was closed. Cache is a camo covered container, bring your own pen. No need to bushwack, follow the trail, cache is about 20 feet off the trail, these woods are part of Norton Park.
