Cogra View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MBFace: This cache location isn't in the current work zone but reaching it from the top of the Donkey Trod still entails passing a 'keep out' notice on the forest road. The Beat Forester says it will be engulfed when the zone moves forwards over the next few months so I'm archiving it now. The container has been removed. Thanks to everyone who visited.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a 670ml lock and lock type box just off the forest road. You should only need to move two stones at the most to reach it – no cairn building please.

Cogra Moss reservoir covers 40 acres and was formed in the 1880s by the damming of Rakegill Beck. Although no longer used as a water supply it is still maintained by United Utilities. Today it is fished for trout by the Cockermouth Angling Association.

The woodland around the reservoir is the responsibility of the Forestry Commission. Recent felling has resulted in better views from the forest road above the reservoir. This road may be accessed from a number of places including Leaps Gate and the National Park car park at Felldyke.

Thanks to the Forestry Commission North West region for permission to place this cache.
