Esta é uma série de caches inspirados na preservação ferroviaria, que, além de proporcionar tudo o que o geocaching oferece, como aventura, diversão e motivo para conhecermos lugares novos, também nos incentiva a descobrir ( ou re-descobrir ) o mundo das ferrovias, que tanto foram úteis nos primórdios do desenvolvimento de nosso país.
This is a series of caches inspired in preserving railroad, which, besides providing all that geocaching offers, such as adventure, fun and reason to know new places, also encourages us to discover (or re-discover) the world of railroads, that were so useful in the early development of our country.
A SPR ( São Paulo Railway ) e a Vila de Paranapiacaba
A São Paulo Railway foi fundada pelo Barão de Mauá em 1867 para ligar o interior de São Paulo ao porto de Santos. Para isso, um grande desafío teve que ser enfrentado: O íngreme desnível da serra do mar. A solução foi instalar um sistema composto de grandes máquinas a vapor, estacionárias, instaladas em patamares ao longo da serra. Os trens que subiam ou desciam se conectavam a cabos de aço que ficam entre os trílhos, que eram movidos pelas máquinas estacionárias.
A Vila de Paranapiacaba fica no topo da serra, e lá estava a última máquina. Lá os trens eram desconectados dos cabos e seguiam viagem pelo planalto. Além disso, lá se concentrava a equipe de manutenção do sistema funicular ( como era chamado o sistema da serra ). Para alojar os trabalhadores e suas famílias foi construída uma vila nos padrões ingleses da época, que, apesar do abandono ao longo dos anos, ainda permanece quase intacta, sendo que hoje existem várias atividades e movimentos de preservação, tanto da estrutura ferroviária antiga, pela ABPF, quanto do conjunto arquitetônico.
A importância da Vila de Paranapiacaba e do Sistema Ferroviário dá-se por vários motivos: o conjunto é um exemplar único, no Brasil, de uma cidade que nasceu e sempre viveu em função da atividade ferroviária. A organização da vila e as casas, construídas de acordo com padrões britânicos, são um importante documento arquitetônico. O Sistema Funicular e o conjunto ferroviário constituem exemplar único no mundo, talvez o melhor exemplo da técnica e tecnologia britânicas do século XIX. Por todas essas razões é que Paranapiacaba é um Patrimônio Histórico de interesse não só local, mas internacional. Desse modo, para tornar o conjunto um Patrimônio da Humanidade.
The São Paulo Railway was founded by the Baron of Maua in 1867 to connect the São Paulo countryside to the port of Santos. For this, a great challenge had to be faced: The steep slope of the sierra. The solution was to install a system composed of large steam engines, stationary, installed in terraces along the sierra. The trains that went up or down were connected to steel cables that lie between the rails, which were powered by the stationary engines.
The Village of Paranapiacaba stands atop the mountain, and there was the last machine. There the trains were disconnected from the cables and drove away the plateau. In addition, the 'Sistema Funicular' maintenance team were concentrated there. The SPR built an 'English village to serve as residence for the workers and their families, that despite the abandonment over the years, still remains almost intact, and today there are several activities and movements to preserve both the old rail equipments, by ABPF and also the Village buildings.
The importance of the Town of Paranapiacaba and the rail systems stands for several reasons: the set is unique in Brazil, a city that was born and always lived according to the railroad activity. The organization of the village and the houses, built according to British standards, are an important architectural document. The funicular system and the rail set up are single in the world, perhaps the best example of the British technique and technology of the nineteenth century. For all these reasons is that Paranapiacaba is a Heritage of interest not only local but international. Thus, to make the set a World Heritage Site.
A Casa do Engenheiro Chefe ( Castelinho )
Esta casa foi construída para alojar o engenheiro chefe do sistema funicular e sua família. É chamada de castelinho pois fica em cima de um pequeno morro que a torna imponente, dentre o restante das construções. Hoje a casa está aberta a visitação guiada, mediante uma taxa de R$ 2,00.
The Chief Engineer House ( Little Castle ) was built to serve as residence for the Chief Engineer and his family. It´s called 'Castelinho' ( Little Castle ) because it sits atop a small hill which makes it impressive, among the rest of the buildings. Today there are guided tours to the house for a fee of $ 2.00.

O Cache
O cache é um tubo de garrafa pet não expandido, que contém log book, instruções, um lápis e alguns pequenos ítens para troca.
The cache is a little clear plastic tube. It contains instructions, log book a pencil and some little trading items.
Informações
A ABPF promove aos fins de semana e feriados passeios em um trem tracionado por uma pequena locomotiva a vapor, saíndo da estação onde está a réplica em miniatura do Big Ben. O passeio apenas na área da estação e tem a duração de 15 minutos.
The ABPF Promotes steam train rides on weekends and hollydays, departing from the station where there´s a miniaturized Bib Ben replica. It´s a 15minute ride in the station area only.
