How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The Final is a quiet mossy plush green way, a great getaway from the busy picnic areas, bring a book, blanket and relax. There is a coin permanently attached to the cache for everyone to discover. This is Kelly’s first Christmas coin.

You have a choice: You can choose to solve the “Fast Forward” and go directly to the final or you can “Detour” solve a series of smaller mini puzzles starting at the “Title Rock” along the gravel path to “Green Pasture” with help along the way to the Final.

Working your way through the Detour – in each micro you will also discover a four GC set for the “West Coast Eco Totem”.

WARNING, the undeveloped areas of the park ARE NOT appropriate for Cachers. Please stay on the gravel walkway and along Boundary Road.

FAST FORWARD:
Use the seven-word phrase from sign nearest “Parking Area” waypoint to decode location of Back40 Final Cache,
then start at the “Trail Head” waypoint and proceed along the gravel path.

DETOUR:
(Please leave these well camo micro’s in view, Please - DONOT cover or conceal – Thanks.)

1. Starting (see way points for) “Title Rock” Garden, “Secret Letter” - find the first letter that follows “CENTRAL PARK WAS ORIGINALLY A (?xxxxxxx)”. Remember your “Secret Letter” and continue to “Code Sticks” (see way points).

2. Locate the (see way points for) “Code Sticks” [HINT: hooked 5ft eye level]. Slide the code sticks to line up your “Secret Letter” with the (A) and repeat the slide of code sticks to line up “Secret Letter” with the (A) on the opposite stick to solve for both North and West coordinate, to the next Micro “Nurse Tree” solve:

North 49 13.(D, F, H)
West 123 01.(E, G, J)

Hope you enjoy the Back40.

NEED HELP:
Keyword ciphers use a secret word or phrase that omits duplicates to come up with an alternate ordered alphabet.

Example: LETS GO GEOCACHING the translation key as follows:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQSTUVWXYZ
LETSGOCAHINBDFJKMPQRUVWXYZ

“Geocaching” in the phrase changes to “cahin” to remove duplicate letters, then after the phrase all remaining letters are listed in order, the resulting cipher is:
RAG TJJPSHFLRGQ LPG
