The top of the climb from either Wellington or the Wairarapa and views that are truly stunning. Take a camera (and a jacket) . Easy parking at the summit. There is no need to climb fences or barriers to get this one. Some stealth is required as this is a busy spot all year round.
At the top of the Rimuitaka road is a great spot with ample parking and sensational views. Winter up here brings snow and very cold temperatures and even in summer it can be quite chilly up here (so bring some warm clothes)
There was once a small coffee shop up here and many people stopped for a warm up brew, but alas the shop closed and then "mysteriously" burnt down while negotiations were underway to get it re-opened.
Check the weather conditions before heading up the hill as winter sees this road closed due to wind and/or snow on occasion.
The summit road is 555M above sea level. It is 14.6 Km from the Pakuratahi River road bridge at 200M above sea level and its is 100M above sea level at the twin bridges at the Wairarapa end. So it's a steep climb in either direction.
The cache is a bigger container now sprayed matt black with a logbook and pencil. Room for trackables and swapables.
