Beide, die Brichkuhle und der Wehringer Pohl, sind typische „Dolinen“, wie sie vielfach in Regionen mit Kalkuntergrund vorkommen. Kalkgesteine können von Niederschlagswasser vor allem entlang von Gesteinsklüften gelöst werden, wobei im Untergrund auch Hohlräume (Höhlen) entstehen können. Bricht solch ein Hohlraum im Untergrund ein, entstehen an der Erdoberfläche die typisch trichterartig geformten Bodenvertiefungen, die „Dolinen“. Die Große Brichkuhle als größte Doline dieser Region ist immerhin ca. 40 m im Durchmesser und 25 m tief. Während die Brichkuhle dichten Baumbestand aufweist, steht im Wehringer Pohl ganzjährig Wasser, da die Klüfte im Kalkuntergrund durch eingeschwemmte Lehme verschlossen sind. Beide Dolinen sind als Naturdenkmale geschützt. In der Doline ist die ursprüngliche Vegetation erhalten geblieben, worunter besonders die unter Naturschutz stehende Hirschzunge auffällt.

Die Paderborner Hochfläche ist eine typische Karstlandschaft, wo sich neben Dolinen weitere Karstphänomene wie Bachschwinden, Karsthöhlen, Karstquellen und Schichtstufen finden lassen.

Logbedingung:
1. Mache von Dir oder Deinem GPS ein Foto vor der Brichkuhle
2. Ermittle die beiden Umfänge der Dolinen und addiere Sie. Runde das Ergebnis auf die nächstgrößte Zahl (10er Schritt) Bsp.: ermitteltes gemeinsamer Umfang= 305 Meter, Ergebnis = 310

Both, the Brichkuhle and the Wehringer Pohl, are typical geological collapse crater called “sinkholes”. They exist in many cases in Areas with lime in the subsurface. Subsurfaces with lime can be leached out by the rainfall, especially along stonegaps. Due to leaching of salt and lakes of rocks in the subsurface, there can be formed , a large cavity in the deep over time. The ceiling of this cavity can’t withstanding the high pressure of the overlying layers of the earth no more. When it breaks, the overlying rocks are going to slip. At the surface a sinkhole is born. The große Brichkuhle is the largest geological collapse crater sinkhole in this region. The Diameter is about 40Meters and it is 25 Meters deep. While the Brichkuhle is in an Area with many Trees around it, is the Wehringer Pohl filled with Water all year long, because the gaps are filled and closed with washed in clays. Both geological collapse craters are natural monuments. In the geological collapse crater there is the originally flora, especially the Phyllitis scolopendrium The Paderborn plateau is a typical karst area. Here you can find geological collapse crater like fading stereams, karst caves, karst springs and escarpments.

To log this Cache you need to
1. make an picture of You or your GPS device in front of the Große Brichkuhle
2. measure the girth of the sinkholes. Multiplicate tehm and round it up to the next biggest number. (steps of ten) Example: ascertainted result: 305 Meters EndResult = 310
