More
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is located in Leafyoak Wood on the outskirts of Hertford Heath and Great Amwell.
You may access the general area around the cache from a bridleway leading between the two locations. Cache is beside a small path leading off the bridleway. DO NOT park on the driveway leading to the stables off Stanstead Road. You may park either at Van Hague's in Great Amwell and take public footpaths to the general area or park at the car park for Goldings Wood part of the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust Reserve.
Leafy Oak Wood is outside of the preserved woodland area but is still a very special area. The woodland is oak and birch. Occasional coppicing occurs. There are bluebells at the right time of year.
Birds seen in the reserve area include woodpeckers, nuthatches and treecreepers so I should imagine there is a chance of sighting these.
Be aware that the bridleway is a popular route so can be quite muddy as displayed by myself, the boy and geo mutt after placing the cache! Cache is a small circular tupperware tub and includes a log book (no pencil so bring your own!), various swops and a tb.
