Geocache Description:

This is a three stage multi-cache within the Borough of Ashland.

Ashland, PA is our home town and has a lot of history. We felt that it is interesting enough to bring to the attention of fellow cachers. The ABA (Ashland Boys Association) idea started in 1898 and was officially organized in 1903. They were instrumental in erecting the monument at stage one. The construction was one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Work Progress Administration (WPA) projects.

From the posted coordinates, you will get information and do some simple math to get the coordinates for stage 2. Then, from the stage 2 coordinates you will do some more math in order to solve for the final coordinates.

Stage 2 - N: Subtract (year of erection divided by 84). W: Add (number of letters in the inscription on the front of the base of the monument times 3.5) round up to the next whole number.

Bonus: Look for a benchmark at this location. This benchmark is included in the database on geocaching.com and you can log it as a separate find.

Final Stage - N: Add (number of military branch symbols on the monument + 4). W:
Add (The number of the Legion Post divided by 27).

Bring your own writing instrument. The cache contains just a log and a US dollar coin for the FTF. Just remove the lid to access the log sheet. Please return the container exactly as it was found.
