Geocache Description:

A straight forward traditional cache near Hatch Mill and the River Wey in Farnham.

Looking at Hatch Mill today, you can try and imagine its former uses. Originally a mill powered by water from the River Wey to grind corn, the building has altered many times. Milling ceased in the 1890s when the mill was converted to a laundry, which continued until the 1950s. Later the building was used by Farnham Arts College for their Foundation course, a shelter for the homeless and a rehearsal studio for the Redgrave Theatre.

The oldest parts of Hatch Mill date from the 18th Century. It is a listed building and an important part of Farnham’s industrial heritage. It was saved from demolition through the combined efforts of local support groups and Farnham Town Council. It was given to the Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society by Waverley Borough Council in the late 1990s for £1 to convert into sheltered housing for the elderly.

Parking can be found nearby at the co-ordinates below. The undergrowth is low at the time of setting the cache (March), but you can already see that shorts and sandals in the summer will be a bad idea.
