Geocache Description:

Los Alamos, NM

We upped the difficulty level on 9/15/02 per suggestions. This cache is hidden near Pajarito Springs in White Rock canyon near Los Alamos, NM. The hike is only about 3/4 mile. It is short but involves hiking down (and then back up) the "red-dot" trail into a canyon. The trail drops several hundred feet in the process. Its a beautiful area and Pajarito Springs are a real treat in this other-wise dry area. My boys (Christopher, 6 and Steven, 3) and I did this hike and hid the cache which was our first.

Park at the "red dot trail" trailhead - N 35, 48.594 W 106 12.218. The trail runs east from there to the canyon rim and then traverses down the canyon side following the "red dots" as you go along. Follow the trail until you reach the spring (you can't miss it), go a bit further until the trail crosses the small stream flowing from the spring. From the trail crossing follow the stream to the cache coordinates. The cache is under a rock outcropping behind a prickly pear cactus. Have fun!

The cache includes: Kids tattoos, 3 pack of chapstick, rain poncho, "Barrel-of-Monkeys", a really good ice cream scoop, a new "Sac Dollar" coin, mini tape-measure, hand warmers, stainless steel chow-set, a mini flashlight, a good piece of obsidian, and a couple good children's magazines.
