026 Beaver Dam Booty Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

King Boreas:
I was close today, but didn't have the vehicle, the time, or the ambition. Water is up everywhere, and any shortcuts I might have considered would not be fun.

I have no idea when I'll be back.

If I go during the summer, or in October or November, I'll try to restore it. There are many memorable stories about the beaver dam. Maybe I'll collect them and post them.

Sandy, John: if you're still checking this out, please send me your thoughts.

David: best damn camp cook since, well, your dad. RIP guys.

Geocache Description:

an early King Boreas cache approved by: iryshe

Blandin "public-use" land, between Hill City and Grand Rapids

You must travel on gravel or dirt logging roads. I broke an axle on my 1989 Plymouth Grand Voyager in November 2000. A year later I drove my 1994 Plymouth Voyager, which sits lower to the ground. On the way out, trying to avoid a large rock in the center of the road, I dropped the front right wheel into a rut. We managed to get it out though.

Deer hunting season is during the first three weeks of November.

This should not be a problem at all. The cache is only 30+ feet off the road. When you find the spot where the road is washed out, the dam is on your right. The cache is located at the base of the pine trees, near the middle of the dam, just a few feet to Jamie's right.

Take 169 to Itasca county road 67 (Split Hand Lake Road). It only goes one direction-east.
Turn right on Itasca county road 68. Turn right on Itasca county road 432 (gravel).
At each of these turns is a sign for the Wildwood Community Center.
Travel on 432 for about 2.3 miles.
The logging road (Trail #1 ?) is on the right.

From here you're kinda on your own. You have to make a series of left turns, at forks or major turns. After you make the first turn, the second should be very close (100 ft. ?)
If the gate is locked, you may follow Jamie and Kristin's route, which involved areas like this:

If you know the area, the easiest way in may be from Split Hand Lake.
I saw a couple guys on ATV's, but don't know exactly how they got there.
