We are inviting you to our favourite childhood trail between Porva-Csesznek and Zirc. It is 7.7 km long, takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, including a short time on the train. Our 8 and 2 year old children loved the train ride and were pleasantly tired by the end of our hike.
Suggested starting point is the Zirc train station. There is a large parking lot by the station (coordinates: N 47° 16,024' E 17° 52,624' 381m) The train schedule is as follows: 8:35; 11:32; 15:34; 7:22; 18:38. Destination is the Porva-Csesznek station, which is the first stop after a 13-minute ride.
Start following the red trail marker across the bridge, then turn right toward Zirc. On the left side of the bridge there is a rest area. You can find a "freedom" monument on the side of the hill, above 75 steps.
Our kids love caves and caverns. We were all curious about the opening in the rocks on the side of the hill (coordinates: N 47° 18,822' E 17° 51,241' 352 m). Is there a cave up there?
The red trail marker takes you across the Cuha Creek a few times; it may not be wise to follow the trail marker too closely when the water is high. In general there is a well-worn path on each side of the creek, all the way to Zirc. We found two spots to wade across, the first at a metal rail road bridge (coordinates: N 47° 18,805' E 17° 51,221' 388 m), the second by a sediment mound (coordinates: N 47° 18,417' E 17° 51,642' 359 m).
Near the box the GPS might have too much interference from the dense foliage. The cache is a plastic box, inside a cavern. Please do not put rocks on it, it is sufficiently camouflaged. Look for the blue dot!
At the outskirts of Kardosrét the red trail sign takes you across a bridge, then into Zirc. If you are heading toward the parking lot, stay on the train station side of the creek, following the path toward the recently built bus station.
The trail can be traversed in the other direction. Trains leave the Porva-Csesznek station toward Zirc as follows: 6:43; 10:05; 12:19; 15:06; 17:06; 18:07.

Have a great outing!
