Geocache Description:

CENTURION GLUTEUS MAXIMUS

Calling all citizens loyal to the Roman Empire ! We need you on a vital quest to protect our way of life ! Some slaves have escaped into woodland near Sarum and are planning to mutiny against us !

Word has come to us that the treacherous slaves are very close to the hamlet of Firs Down. The slaves have formed an alliance with some rebellious Gauls. These Gauls plan to help by providing a recipe for a magic potion. This potion will give the slaves incredible strength and we will be powerless to defeat them if they obtain this potion ! Mystical druids from nearby Stone Henge are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the recipe any day now...

So how can we defeat the slaves ? Well, we have intercepted a coded message which reveals the location of a drop-off point, where the potion recipe will be delivered. The magic potion is not there yet, but the slaves have left a 1 litre plastic tub, hidden inside a camoflage bag. Perhaps you can find this tub, and if you record your name on a log book, the slaves will realise that their plan is foiled and give up ?

Anyway, before this can be done, the code must be broken...

N 51 05.ABC
W 001 4D.EF6

Where:

  • A = "...In Britain"
  • B = "...The Great Crossing" minus "The Cauldron"
  • C = "...The Gaul"
  • D = "...And the Golden Sickle"
  • E = "...At the Olympic Games" minus "The Legionary"
  • F = "...The Banquet".

I fear this code may defeat some less well read citizens, but hopefully there may be some who will find this easy ? To put your mind at rest, can I re-assure you that it will be less than 0.5 mile to walk from the starting coordinates of:

N 51 06.011
W 001 42.338

May I wish you well on your mission. Remember, to travel steathily. We don't want to alert the slaves who may be nearby and see us searching around for the correct hiding spot.
