Geocache Description:

A 35mm film canister tucked away in a quiet corner of this pretty little market town located on a steep gradient but should just about be pushchair friendly.

This can almost be done as a cache and dash if parking on Union Street or in the Market Square but parking is limited and, be warned, the wardens are very keen here.

Ashbourne is full of these little alleyways and Shakespeare's Yard is one of the most accessible.

Throughout history Shakespeare's Yard has been occupied as the rear entrance for a butcher's shop. The current butcher's predecessor was a Mr Shakespeare - hence the name.

The shop fronts on to the cobbles next to the yard's entrance but backs in to the first part of the narrow public walk-way.

Back in the day animals would have been slaughtered in the yard and you can still see the brick gutters at the entrance used to carry blood away and down the street.

The modernised house that faces you as you walk uphill under the timber archway has an interesting history and is said to be haunted.

Your GPS will get you within a foot or two but the cache is under cover so you'll need to use your instincts when you get close - and bring a pen!

You should find the yard's fairly quiet, even on busy days, but it does get used so keep your stealth mode on standby!

Please re-hide the cache well, ensuring the next finder can reach it.
