Geocache Description:

May we suggest that you please use hand sanitiser before and after finding this cache - thanks 😊 Welcome to GJMMelb’s 10th cache however our FIRST traditional!!

We decided it was time for a break from the puzzles and to bring people to visit this lovely lake { again ;-) }, which has a cool playground and is where MMelb first learnt how to swing on a swing by himself!! - hence the name of the cache!! BUT DON’T WORRY!! The cache is NOT hidden too near to the playground coz we know and understand how that stresses cachers out! However it is only about 100 metres stroll away from the playground so the geokids can play before or after the cache hunt!

There are various places to park around different entrances to the lake so why not choose one of the further away carparks so that you can go for a stroll around/by the lake first!

Ringwood Lake - A short history Ringwood Lake Park is located at the corner of Maroondah Highway and Mt Dandenong Road. The lake is about 1 hectare in size with a shoreline of 1 kilometre and a maximum depth of 4.3 metres. In 1926 the lake was created, with community co-operation, by damming the Sandy Creek which flowed north-westerly to the Mullum Mullum Creek. It was an area of mud, fallen logs and grasses which now provides alternative habitat for wildlife as well as passive recreational opportunities (ie geocaching!!). The Borough Engineer had called for a working bee through the Local Paper. The working bee of 1926 is a story of first rate community co-operation. Orchardists and assorted trades people turned up with horses and threw their weight into the project!!

If you would like to learn more about the history of the lake, the Miners Cottage and surroundings please click on the following link Ringwood Lake

Major facilities include: Playground, Barbecues, Toilets (includes accessible facilities) Bush/woodlands, Sound Shell, Poppet Head Walking/ bicycle paths, lawn areas, Fern gully walkway, bridge and viewing platforms. However sadly the Miners Cottage replica was burnt down in November 2009 - http://leader-news.whereilive.com.au/photos/gallery/ringwood-lakes-miners-cottage/

The cache is a 1litre sistema container spray-painted black containing the usual swaps, log book and small FTF prize and certificate. Hmmmmmm..... hope that with the tree coverage here that the name of the cache isnt a prediction.........!!! ;-) Please rehide the cache as well or better than you found it!! :)
