Geocache Description:

A cache on the Monaro Highway between the towns of Bombala NSW and Cann River in Victoria

The container is now an eclipse tin and is in camo.

A bit of a lonely route, the Monaro Highway is a state highway in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria, Australia. The Victorian section was formerly known as the Cann Valley Highway until the 1980s.

The highway traverses the Monaro region, hence the name. It starts at Canberra and runs south past Michelago and Bredbo to Cooma. It continues to Nimmitabel, Bombala and beyond crossing the Victorian border until it meets Princes Highway at the town of Cann River. The Monaro Highway runs for 286 kilometres and it forms part of the main road route from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains, and to Victoria's Gippsland region (an important freight route, as an alternative to the Princes Highway).

Between Bombala and Cann River there are 86 kilometers with no caches - until today.

There is a parking area near the cache but please be mindful that vehicles are travelling at 100 Klm/hr in this area. Keep a tight hold onto geokids. There is no need to wander onto the road, so stay behind the steel barriers.

The Cann River runs under the highway at this point as it makes it's way down to the townships of Noorinbee (the original site of Cann River) before crossing the Princes Highway and eventually meeting the sea through the Tamboon Inlet.

Bring your own pencil.
