Geocache Description:

This is the original London to Portsmouth road

Swappable etiquette:

Please. You don't have to take an item if you don't want to. However, if you do take an item, it is good to leave another item as a fair (or better than fair) exchange. Please, No monetary coins, McToys, shell’s, pebbles etc. It's disappointing for children if, having found the cache they are presented with rubbish and tat. Many thanks.

The cache is a 800ml clip-loc box containing swappables of a good standard placed within a zip loc plastic bag and a log book in a seperate plastic bag. The whole is placed in to a weather proof bag.

A stagecoach journey between London and Portsmouth took 9 hours and had it's dangers either here or at Hindhead some miles to the north where you may have encountered highwaymen, robbers and thieves. Travellers would often opt to journey from Godalming to Portsmouth via Petworth and Chichester rather than take their chances at Hindhead and Butser.

This cache is accessible from a road starting at Buriton roundabout (please don't block the gateway) and if you are early enough in the morning, look for the deer in the fields opposite the gates, and also through Queen Elizabeth Country Park where parking charges apply.

From QECP, the trail is woodland pathways and is reasonably accessable to everyone except wheelchairs.

The climb from the Buriton gates is asphalted and accessable to all except wheelchairs due to the 2 x sets of locked gates. Please bear in mind the gradient of the road from this point which is very steep.
