Geocache Description:

This cache is my first, and as it lies close to where I live and there are no others in the area, I thought this would be a great place to put one. The cache is hidden along the original road which used to run through Merrymeet before the new A390 was built. Merrymeet grew particularly in the 1800's around the local mining industry where shafts were operated and lead and silver extracted up to around 1875, when the seams of lead petered out.

The cache is a typical small lock and lock container, with a collection of various items for trade. The path to the cache location can get quite muddy depending on recent rainfall, and so good outdoor boots may be necessary, although I managed to place the cache quite easily in my trainers. There is plenty of parking in the village, but recommend parking is in one of the two laybys on the A390. The cache from here is only a 5 to 10 minute stroll and you'll get to see the local parish church, and the old school which was set up for the children of the mining families in the 1800's
